The Kern Coalition recently convened regional leaders and partners to kick off the year with a celebration of the launch of 16 transformational economic development projects across Kern County. These projects, totaling close to $9 million in investments as part of the California Jobs First Initiative, span from McFarland to Lake Isabella, creating new pathways to prosperity for communities that need them most.
The kickoff event marked a critical step forward for the region—bringing together voices from workforce development, business, labor, and the public sector to recognize the Catalyst projects advancing equity, innovation, and opportunity throughout Kern communities. Attendees heard highlights from Catalyst projects that are already laying the groundwork for long-term, inclusive economic growth. From strengthening workforce pipelines to supporting innovation and expanding access to opportunity countywide, these projects reflect a shared commitment to collaboration and impact across sectors.
The Kern Coalition is excited to continue the momentum and in the coming weeks will share updates on state funding notifications and a Regional Roadmap that fosters innovation, research, and entrepreneurship by investing in local workforce, skills, and job quality. We’re energized by the opportunities ahead to continue collaborating with regional partners, celebrate shared progress, and to bring our collective vision into action across Kern County.
Meet some of the innovative projects leading the way:

Kern County's first gravity-well installation from Renewell Energy will transform abandoned oil wells into clean energy storage systems while creating climate-aligned jobs for workers transitioning from traditional energy sectors.
Lamont Auto Repair’s EV Workforce & Repair Center will train and certify local technicians in electric vehicle systems, bringing green technology services and quality jobs directly to disadvantaged communities.
A veteran workforce accelerator from TalentBase will connect transitioning service members and veterans with career-ready training and employer partnerships across Kern's aerospace, defense, energy, and manufacturing sectors.
