Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development (RPED) Grant Program

Program Description
The Employment and Training Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor (Labor) is soliciting applications in support of the administration of the Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development (RPED) Grant Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Secretary of Education (Secretary). The purpose of the Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development (RPED) Grant Program is to improve rates of postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and completion among rural students through development of career pathways aligned to high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand industry sectors and occupations in the region.

USDA is Now Accepting Applications for Rural Businesses and Community Development Projects

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 18, 2026 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that it is making $27.7 million in grants available through the Rural Business Development Grant Program (RBDG). This program provides funding for business and community initiatives that promote economic growth and job creation.

Eligible applicants can include rural cooperatives, state government agencies, towns, and communities, nonprofit corporations and institutions of higher learning, and federally recognized Tribes. Individuals and for-profit businesses or organizations are not eligible to apply.

Applications will compete in two separate categories:
  • Business opportunity grants: May be used for business support centers, technology-based economic development, leadership and entrepreneur training, feasibility studies, business plans, long-term strategic planning, and other eligible activities.
  • Business enterprise grants: May be used for training and technical assistance, project planning, business counseling, market research, feasibility studies, and product or service improvements, buying or developing land, easements, or rights of way, including access streets and parking areas, constructing or renovating buildings, and buying machinery and equipment, capitalizing revolving loan funds, and supporting rural business incubators and community economic development and other eligible activities.

Electronic applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. local time through Grants.gov on the due date.

The Rural Business Development Grant Program has two different closing dates:
  • June 15, 2026, only applies to Strategic Economic and Community Development (SECD) applications.
  • June 30, 2026, applies to the remainder of the applicants.

Past Funding Opportunities

Kern Community Foundation Farmworker Grant

Kern Community Foundation is offering $100,000 in grant funding this year to eligible nonprofits supporting unemployed and employed farmworkers. All organizations seeking funds must have a presence in Kern County, support farmworkers, and meet Kern Community Foundation’s eligibility guidelines. Organizations may request up to $50,000 in funding. To submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), go to www.kernfoundation.org/grants. The Letter of Intent (LOI) is due on April 3, 2026.

Grant Details
  • Who Can Apply: Organizations must have a presence in Kern County, support farmworkers, and meet Kern Community Foundation’s eligibility guidelines.
  • Purpose: To support farmworkers – both employed and unemployed.
  • Maximum Award: $50,000 per organization.
Eligibility
  • 501(c)3 public charity, or an organization fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)3
  • If an organization is using a fiscal sponsor, it needs a history of partnership
  • Registered with Kern Community Foundation
  • GuideStar Transparency Rating Silver 2024 or higher
  • All organizations applying for a grant must be current on reporting obligations for past KCF grants

California Regional Investment Initiative, Implementation Phase Request for Proposals

California has grant funding available to help communities get better internet access and learn how to use digital technology effectively. The grants can support programs like computer skills training and public education about internet services in areas where people have limited access to reliable broadband. Priority is given to communities that need the most help, including low-income neighborhoods, senior communities, and areas where people face financial or social barriers to getting internet service. The goal is to make sure all Californians have the opportunity to access and benefit from digital technology and high-speed internet.

SEED 3 Grant | Employment Training Panel

Employment Training Panel (ETP) is accepting applications for SEED grants to help Community-Based Organizations (CBO) support refugees and immigrants that want to start their own microbusinesses

The Employment Training Panel and the Labor Workforce Development Agency is excited to announce the availability of up to $6,750,000 in California General Fund dollars for the New Grant Funding Opportunity – Social Entrepreneurs for Economic Development (SEED) 3 Grant. The purpose of SEED 3 is to support the entrepreneurship of immigrants and Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals who face significant employment barriers. The SEED 3 grant will provide micro-grants, entrepreneurial training, worker cooperative and employee ownership support, and technical assistance to SEED target populations to support them in starting or maintaining a small business in California aimed at addressing a social problem or meeting a community need.

Farmworker Advancement Project

Applications are being accepted for the latest round of the Farmworker Advancement Project. There is $5 million in available federal funding for this program, with an application deadline of March 2nd.

The goal of this grant is to fund projects that focus on farmworker needs at a regional level by offering essential skills and upskilling training for farmworkers to either advance in the agricultural industry and/or prepare for advancement outside of the agricultural sector. This grant program is intended to address multiple existing and emerging gaps in the current workforce system for farmworkers.
